Augustana
Brian Benning (Winnebago, Ill./H.S.) won the weight throw at the Dubuque Open recently with a national qualifying throw of 56-10 ¼. Nick Sinon (Elburn, Ill./Kaneland) captured the high jump, also hitting a national qualifying height of 6-8 while Greg Patton (Bloomington, Ill./H.S.) broke the facility and meet record in the 400-meter dash, finishing with a time of 49.97. Both Sinon and Patton took home CCIW Athlete of the Week honors for their performances.

Carthage
Carthage finished third at the February 12 Chicagoland Championship hosted by North Central. Jarrayl Johnson (Flossmoor, Ill./Thornwood) placed second in the weight throw (51-6), followed by Josh Brennan (Geneva, Ill./H.S.) in third (54-0 ½). Jose Flores (Round Lake, Ill./Grant) placed second in the 800 (1:56.22) during Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s Eastbay Invitational on February 19.

Elmhurst
Pat Austin (Yorkville, Ill./H.S.) took third in the 3,000 (8:39.61) at the Chicagoland Championships and was also part of the distance medley relay team of Jake Austin (Yorkville, Ill./H.S.), Mark D’Angelo (McHenry, Ill./H.S.) and Jeff Slavick (Orion, Ill./H.S.) that placed second (10:23.44). Rodney Payton (Bellwood, Ill./Nazareth) was fourth in the long jump (6.62 meters).

Illinois Wesleyan
Darien West (Chicago, Ill./De La Salle) was champion in the weight throw at Monmouth’s Fighting Scots Invitational on February 12, winning with a toss of 59-9. Max Lustick (St. Louis, Mo./Ladue Horton Watkins) won the mile (4:17.34) while T.J. Luby (Wheaton, Ill./North) was second in the 5,000 (15:26.69) and Alex Lambert (Champaign, Ill./Tremont) was second in the pole vault (15-9).

Millikin
Kieron Boyd (Maywood, Ill./St. Joseph), Mitchell Caffey (Bolingbrook, Ill./H.S.), Ibn Powell (Lynwood, Ill./Thornton Fractional South) and John Meadows (Benton, Ill./H.S.) finished third in the 4x400 relay (3:31.34) at the Purdue Boilermaker Invitational on February 19. Boyd also finished eighth in the 200 (23.42).

North Central
Defending national champion North Central enters this weekend’s conference championship as the No. 1 ranked team according to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Robert Kapustka (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East) hit the automatic qualifying mark in the weight throw (61-9) during the Cardinal Classic on February 18. Dan Benton (Westmont, Ill./H.S.) and Jon Caron (Romeoville, Ill./H.S.) finished 1-2 in the 400-meter dash, both hitting the provisional qualifying standard in the process. Zach Heerspink (Holland, Mich./Hamilton) won the long jump (22-7 ¼) and high jump (6-6 ¾) while Peter Geraghty (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) was the pole vault champion (16-8 ¾ - automatic qualifier). Michael Spain (Schaumburg, Ill./H.S.) won the 3,000 (8:28.64).

North Park
Gabe Nash (Niles, Ill./West) recently placed fifth in the 200-meter dash (22.65) during the Chicagoland Championships. Dan Chalus (Niles, Ill./North) placed fifth in the pole vault (13-11 ¼) while teammate Chris Mark (Fox Lake, Ill./Grant) placed seventh (13-5 ¼).
