CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- All five College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) wrestlers who competed at the NCAA Division III National Championships this weekend took home all-American honors and one individual title during the two-day meet.
Elmhurst's Jake Oster (Lockport, Ill./H.S.) became the school's first three-time all-American in wrestling, winning the individual title at 125 pounds with an 8-7 win over Mike McInally of the Rochester Institute of Technology. Oster's win was only the second time that Elmhurst has ever had an individual win a national title (Elvis McCarter was the last two do so in outdoor track & field during the 2000 season).
In addition, Mark Corsello (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) finished runner-up for Elmhurst at 285 pounds. Oster's and Corsello's finishes were the highest national finish by any Bluejay wrestler. Before this weekend, no Elmhurst wrestler had ever finished higher than third at the national championships.
North Central's Ben Youel (Crystal Lake, Ill./Central) finished second at 165 pounds and finished 3-1 on the weekend, losing in the championship match to Justin Hanson of Wartburg, 7-3.
Gabe Youel (Crystal Lake, Ill./Central) finished fourth for North Central at 184 pounds, losing in the third-place match to Joshua Zabel of Wisconsin-LaCrosse 4-0.
Both of the Youel brothers earned all-American status with their finishes after they claimed all-American honors in 2008 with fourth place finishes between the two of them.
Wheaton's Toby Boltz (Sycamore, Ill./H.S.) also earned all-American status by finishing eigth at 184 pounds. He became the first Wheaton wrestler since 2003 to earn all-American honors. The last Wheaton wrestlers to do so were Sean Collins and David Hirt.
