NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Fresh off a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) wrestling championship, North Central head coach Kevin Bratland was named CCIW Wrestling Coach of the Year Tuesday in a vote by the head wrestling coaches in the conference.
The Cardinals won their first conference wrestling title since 1997 on Saturday, winning with a score of 100.5, just enough to top second place Elmhurst (97.0), who had won the last three seasons.
Bratland led North Central to the title in just his second season with the program. In Bratland's first season, the Cardinals finished 10th at the NCAA Division III Championships as two wrestlers were named all-Americans.
Bratland had stops as assistants at Ohio Northern and Wartburg prior to working at North Central and is a 2003 graduate of Wartburg where he was a two-time all-American.
