Elmhurst Wins Third Straight CCIW Wrestling Title

ELMHURST, Ill. -- Behind wins at 141, 149 and 197 pounds, Elmhurst College, for the third straight season, hoisted the conference championship wrestling trophy after the Bluejays picked up the tournament victory with a team score of 91.0.

Rounding out the team scoring was North Central (81.5), Wheaton (54.5), Millikin (41.5) and Augustana (33.5). Jared Christner of Millikin was named Outstanding Wrestler, while Wheaton’s Seth Norton earned Coach of the Year honors after the Thunder finished third, improving on a fifth place finish from last season.

At 125 pounds, Christner won the title over Elmhurst’s Jake Oster 14-9, while North Central’s Adam Johnson won the 133-pound title over Millikin’s Mario Sullivan 15-7. Elmhurst’s Kenny Thomas was the winner at 141 pounds, defeating Dave Gregory of Wheaton. Jeff Kastel of Elmhurst won at 149 pounds over North Central’s Noah Fitzenreider 8-3. Bobby Gingerich of North Central won the 157-pound title over Kyle Katz of Elmhurst 1-0.

Ben Youel of North Central defeated Elmhurst’s Tony Doan 4-1 at 165 pounds, while Wheaton’s Toby Boltz beat North Central’s Greg Schroeder 3-2 at 174 pounds. North Central’s Gabe Youel won over Elmhurst’s Greg Horn 7-4 at 184 pounds, while Elmhurst’s Nick Metcalf was the champion at 197 pounds, defeating John Parkhurst of Augustana 5-1. Chase Campbell of Wheaton defeated Elmhurst’s Demetri Vrettos at 285 pounds.
