Outlook
The 2006 CCIW Wrestling Championship will feature three conference teams that are currently ranked in the top 25 of the latest Brute-Adidas/NWCA Division III Rankings. North Central (eighth), defending CCIW champion Elmhurst (11th) and Augustana (20th) were all ranked in the Jan. 31 poll (click here from most recent rankings).
In addition, five individuals are ranked in the top eight nationally in their respective weight class. Tom Gagon of Elmhurst is ranked seventh at 125 pounds, while teammate Tyler Ludwig is third at 157 pounds. Bobby Gingerich of North Central is right behind Ludwig at fourth in the 157 pound weight class, while teammate Noah Fitzenreider is eighth at 149 pounds. Ward Brady of Elmhurst is ranked eighth at 285 pounds.
Elmhurst is looking to win its second straight title after
winning its first in school history last season and stopping a seven-year run by Augustana. Augustana has won 24 of the last 27 CCIW championships. The Vikings have 36 titles overall, while Wheaton has won six with the last coming in 1981. North Central has three titles with the last coming in 1997.
