AUGUSTANA ROLLS TO SIXTH STRAIGHT COLLEGE CONFERENCE OF ILLINOIS & WISCONSIN WRESTLING TITLE
The Augustana Vikings steamrolled to a sixth straight championship in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin wrestling tournament on Saturday, February 15 in Rock Island, Illinois. Led by Aaron Granell’s third straight individual title at 197 pounds, Augustana scored 93 points to easily outdistance Millikin’s second place total of 69. Wheaton was third with 56 points, North Central took fourth with 54.5 and Elmhurst finished fifth with 48.
Sean Collins of Wheaton won the Most Outstanding Wrestler award after winning the championship at 149 pounds with a pin of Matt Kuschert of Elmhurst at 1:54. Pat Marsh of Augustana was named the "Coach of the Year".
Augustana got championship performances from Dan Stanton (125), Matt Kapraun (141), Brian Daly (157), Sean Hoover (165), Pat Healy (184) and Granell (197) en route to capturing the 35th team title in school history since 1963.
Tony Nord of Wheaton won the championship at 133 pounds, Ryan Aldrich of North Central was the winner at 174 pounds and Nate Carden of Millikin defended his title at 285 pounds.
