Elmhurst Captures Second Straight CCIW Wrestling Title
NAPERVILLE, Ill. – For the second season in a row, but only the second time in school history, Elmhurst was crowned champion of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin in wrestling Saturday during the conference tournament held at North Central College.
The Bluejays earned an overall score of 103.5, topping host North Central who finished second with 81.0 points. Augustana (74.5), Millikin (39.0) and Wheaton (16.5) rounded out the remaining places.
Elmhurst head coach Steve Marianetti was named the CCIW’s wrestling Coach of the Year, while Ward Brady of the Bluejays was named Outstanding Wrestler at the conclusion of the meet.
Elmhurst won five of the 10 individual championships as Kenny Thomas earned the title at 149 pounds, while Tyler Ludwig was champion at 157 pounds. Josh Rupprecht (174 pounds), Adil Kolovic (184 pounds) and Brady (285 pounds) were the others to take home individual titles for the Bluejays. Leo Byrd of Augustana won the title at 125 pounds, while teammates Ryan McMurray (141 pounds) and Brian Daly (165 pounds) won their respective weight classes. Adam Johnson and Dustin Docter of North Central earned the championships at 133 and 197 pounds respectively.
