2005 CCIW Indoor championship
CARTHAGE WINS FIFTH STRAIGHT CCIW TITLE BEHIND THREE VICTORIES FROM MUFFY ISRAEL
BLOOMINGTON, Illinois – With sprint star Muffy Israel winning three individual events, the Carthage Lady Reds won the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin women’s indoor track & field championship for the fifth straight year. Carthage scored 163 points to defeat second place North Central by 33. Augustana was third with 106 and Illinois Wesleyan took fourth with 94. Wheaton (80), North Park (36), Millikin (25) and Elmhurst (24) finished out the field.
Israel was the dominant performer of the meet, winning the 55 in :07.19, the 200 in :25.32 and the long jump with a leap of 17’ 8 ¼”. She won the 55 for the fourth consecutive year and the 200 for the third time in the last four. Her long jump victory was her first.
There were five new meet records set. Jessica Elsen won the 800 in 2:19.72, taking down the old record of 2:20.37 by Jennifer Smith of Augustana in 2003. Jessica Griffin of North Central won the mile in 5:11.86 and that will go as a record because this is a new event. Sheana Grigsby of Carthage took the 55 hurdles in :08.08 and broke her own record of :08.22 set a year ago. It was the third straight title in the event for Grigsby. In the pole vault Megan Rossi of North Central cleared 12’ 6” to win for the second consecutive year, breaking her own record of 11’ 8” last year. Jodi Stanton of Augustana got off a throw of 43’ 6 ½” to win the shot put and she took down her own mark of 41’ 7” established in 2004.
Rachel Anderson of Illinois Wesleyan won the 400 in :58.08 and Molly Morrison of North Central won her third title in the 5000, clocking a time of 17:57.32. Lucia Abel of North Park won the triple jump for the second year in a row, this time with a leap of 37’ 4 ½”. Connie Melcher of Carthage took the high jump at 5’ 2 ¼” and Tiffany Farrier of Carthage won the 20 pound weight with a toss of 48’ 1 ¼”, her third straight title.
Wheaton won the 1600 relay in 4:06.44 and the distance medley in 12:42.25 while Carthage grabbed the 800 relay in 1:44.51 and North Central took the 3200 relay in 9:49.58.
