CCIW Indoor Track & Field Titles go to North Central Men and Women
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Both the North Central men and women took home team titles at the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Indoor Track and Field Championships Saturday on the campus of Illinois Wesleyan University.
The Cardinal men, behind four individual titles, won the meet with an overall score of 197.83, while the women, behind nine individual titles, won with a team score of 202. For the men, it was the seventh straight conference championship that the Cardinals have won since the CCIW began sponsoring indoor track and field in 2001. The women's title was the second in a row for the North Central women after Carthage won the first five from 2001-2005.
The Cardinal women earned individual titles in the mile, 800, 3,000, 5,000, distance medley relay, pole vault, 4x800, shot put and weight throw. The Cardinal men won in the 3,000, 4x800, pole vault and triple jump.
Illinois Wesleyan was second on the women's side after earning the conference title in the 200, 400, 4x200 and 4x400. The Titans earned a team score of 149, while the Augustana men were second with a team score of 187.66. The Vikings took home titles in the 800, 5,000, 55 hurdles, distance medley relay and high jump en route to the second place finish.
Rounding out the team scores on the women's side was Augustana (128), Carthage (77.50), Wheaton (70.50), Millikin (42), Elmhurst (17) and North Park (15).
The men's team scores were Carthage (115), Illinois Wesleyan (78), Elmhurst (49.50), Millikin (36), Wheaton (32) and North Park (5).
