CCIW student-athletes earn all-america honors at ncaa women's swimming championships
NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Wheaton and Carthage put forth solid efforts during the NCAA Division III Women's Swimming Championships at Miami (Ohio) University's Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center in Oxford, Ohio over the weekend.
The Thunder placed 12th as a team with 81 points while the Lady Reds were 27th with 36 points.
Wheaton's Kaitlin Marko (Eagan, Minn.) earned all-America honors in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:21.38, good enough for eighth place. Wheaton's Katherine Burt (Coronado, Calif.) finished eighth in the 100-yard freestyle (52.10) to take home all-America honors. The Wheaton 400-yard freestyle relay team of Jenna Sveen (Wheaton, Ill.), Liz Hartman (Jacksonville, Fla./Episcopal), Ashley Matthiesen (Valparaiso, Ind.) and Burt finished seventh with a time of 3:31.57, earning all-America status.
Carthage's Amanda Croix (Bradley, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) finished seventh in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.79 to earn all-America honors. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Sarah Reynertson (Itasca, Ill./Lake Park), Alyssa Messina (Medinah, Ill./Lake Park), Carolyn Kelly (Naperville, Ill./Central) and Croix advanced to the finals and finished 13th with a time of 1:38.36. Croix also finished 12th in the finals of the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.10) and ninth in the 100-yard freestyle (51.63).
