Carthage, Wheaton Earn CCIW Men’s & Women’s Swimming Titles
KENOSHA, Wis. – The 2006 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Swimming Championships saw a first-time winner and a multiple champion earn titles Saturday on the campus of Carthage College.
Carthage won its first ever swimming title on the men’s side, scoring 1,072 points and ending a nine-year run by Wheaton. The Thunder had won 15 of the last 16 conference championships coming into this season. Wheaton won its ninth straight title on the women’s side with 955.5 points. It was the Thunder’s 14th women’s swimming title in school history.
Carthage earned second on the women’s side with 860 points, while Illinois Wesleyan was third (562.5). Augustana (437), Millikin (388) and North Central (195) rounded out the team scoring for the women.
For the men, Wheaton placed second with 965 points, while Millikin was third with 497 points. Illinois Wesleyan (337), North Central (212) and Augustana (166) rounded out the men’s team scores.
