Millikin Names New Head Swimming Coach

Millikin University is proud to announce that Charlie King has accepted the position of Head Men’s and Women’s Swimming Coach.

King comes to Millikin after a two-year stay as the men’s and women’s assistant coach at St. Cloud State University ( Minn.) where his athletes won five All-America honors and set nine school records. During the 2006-07 season, both the men’s and women’s teams were ranked in the nation’s Top 5. Since 2004, he has also served as a counselor/coach at the Stanford International Swim Camp.

“We are so excited to welcome Charlie King to the Millikin community,” Athletic Director Lori Kerans said. “Coach King brings coaching experience and enthusiasm to our Big Blue swimming program. During the interview and selection process, Coach King was able to share his passion, vision and commitment to excellence with the search committee, athletic staff and student-athletes."

Prior to his tenure at St. Cloud State, King was the head women’s swim coach at Augsburg College ( Minn.) from 2003-05. Before that, he served as the co-head coach for the Monticello Swim Club in Monticello, Minn. (1998-04). From 2000-03 King was the women’s assistant coach at Monticello ( Minn.) High School and added the men’s assistant position in 2001-02. King had additional experience as the men’s head coach at St. Cloud Apollo High School (1998-00) and was a volunteer assistant at St. Cloud State for one season from 1998-99.

King earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education (Social Sciences) from St. Cloud State University in 2000. He is currently defending his thesis to complete his Master of Science in Sports Management.

Located in Decatur, Illinois, Millikin University is a coed, independent university with approximately 2,400 full-time students from 33 states and 13 foreign countries. The University awards degrees in Bachelor of Arts, Science, Fine Arts, Music, Science in Nursing and also offers a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Science in Nursing.

The Millikin community enjoys a broad and successful athletics program. The Big Blue competes in 20 NCAA collegiate sports at the Division III level. The University’s teams and individuals have earned national recognition in nearly every sport offered at Millikin.
