Carthage’s Pelka earns Men’s Swimmer of the Week Honors

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Bryan Pelka of Carthage was named Men’s Swimmers of the Week in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Tuesday in voting conducted by the CCIW swimming coaches.

Pelka, a freshman from Elgin, Ill., won the 1000 freestyle and placed second in the 200 freestyle and 200 butterfly in a quad meet with North Central, UW-Oshkosh and Lawrence University. Pelka’s time in the 1000 (9:51.76) was a lifetime best, and is the fastest swum in the CCIW this season and second-fastest in school history.

Pelka finished second in the 200 freestyle with a very respectable 1:50.98. He then concluded the meet with a second-place finish in the 200 butterfly with a time 2:04.79.
