Linn, Somers and Adams earn Swimmer of the Week Honors

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Tim Linn of Wheaton and Henry Somers of Carthage, along with Aimee Adams of Wheaton were named Swimmers of the Week in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Tuesday in voting conducted by the CCIW swimming coaches.

Linn, a sophomore from Germantown, Tenn., had a successful meet during the North Central Invirational last week. Linn won the 50 Free with a time of 21.9, as well as the 100 Free with a time of 48.0.

Somers, a senior from Winfield, Ill., won the Carthage men’s swimming Turkey Shootout. The shootout is a triple-elimination match race with distances and strokes drawn at random prior to every race. Somers overcame an early first-round loss in the 50 meter IM to Jared Hallam. Then, working from the loser’s bracket, Somers pulled off successive wins against Roberto Jorda-Cid (50 Fly), Zach Jole (25 free), Steve Schranck (200 free), and Jimmy Spaulding (75 fly) before beating Hallam in the 100 freestyle and 100 IM to hand the freshman his second and third losses. He then earned a spot in the championship with a win against Nathaniel Chapman in the 75 butterfly, before defeating Nathan Fisher for the championship with a team-record 1:04.49 in the 100m IM.

Adams, a senior from Orlando, Fla., along with Linn, also had a successful weekend while taking part in the North Central Invitational. Adams won both the 50 Free with a time of 25.4 and the 100 Free with a time of 54.9.
