Carthage Sweeps CCIW Swimmer of the Week Honors

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Steve Schrank and Tricia Biedron of Carthage were named Swimmers of the Week in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Tuesday in voting conducted by the CCIW swimming coaches.

Schrank, a freshman from Alton, Ill., provided two wins and a second-place finish in a 99-98 win over Hope College. Schranck nearly upended Hope all-American Kurtis Blohm in the 200 free, falling just short with a second-place time of 1:46.91. Schranck then swam away from the field en route to a win in the 500 freestyle. His time of 4:49.24 ranks eighth all-time in school history. One event later, he won the 100 breaststroke, swimming a 59.75 to become the 4th fastest breaststroker in school history.

Against Hope College and Northern Michigan, Biedron, a senior from Tinley Park, Ill., achieved times that were her fastest ever in season and helped Carthage gain momentum in the early part of the meet. Carthage beat Northern Michigan and took Hope down to the final relay. Bierdron finished first in the 200 free with a time of 2:00.90, and second in the 100 back with a time of 1:02.88. Biedron was also the freestyle leg on the winning medley relay.
