Millikin Predicted to Win CCIW Women’s Basketball Title
NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin women’s basketball coaches picked Millikin to win the conference title in 2005-06, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.
Millikin, the defending national champion who finished 29-2, 13-1 in the CCIW in 2004-05, tallied 48 points, including six first place votes. Wheaton (22-4, 13-1) placed second in the poll, tallying 44 points with two first place votes. Illinois Wesleyan (16-11, 8-6) was third with 36 points.
Millikin and Wheaton each finished atop the CCIW with 13-1 conference records last season. The Big Blue went on to win the conference tournament, and eventually the national title in a 70-50 win over Randolph-Macon. Millikin comes into the season with the No. 1 pre-season ranking by D3Hoops.com.
North Central (15-10, 5-9) was predicted fourth in the coaches poll with 31 points, while Elmhurst (15-11, 6-8) was fifth with 25 points. Carthage (13-12, 4-10), North Park (11-13, 4-10) and Augustana (6-18, 3-11) rounded out the poll with 18, 15 and seven points respectively.
The CCIW women’s basketball season begins November 18.
