Trenz, Sutton Share CCIW Women’s Basketball Player of the Week Honors

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Jill Trenz of Wheaton and Candice Sutton of Elmhurst were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Women’s Basketball Players of the Week Monday after their performances during the previous week of competition.

Trenz, a sophomore center from Cincinnati, Ohio, helped lead Wheaton to a 2-0 record over the weekend. She averaged 14 points and 10 rebounds per game, shooting 62.5 percent (10-16) from the field. She also blocked 11 shots, dished out five assists and had four steals. In Wheaton’s season-opening win against Aurora on Friday she scored 14 points, with 12 rebounds, four assists and seven blocked shots. On Saturday, the reigning CCIW Player of the Year helped lead Wheaton to a 67-53 win against Benedictine with 14 points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots.

Sutton, a sophomore guard from Matteson, Ill., was named to the all-tournament team and led the Bluejays to the title of the Elmhurst Tip-Off Tournament. Sutton finished the weekend with 30 points on 61.9 percent shooting (13-of-21) while adding six assists and eight steals. On Friday, Sutton scored a game-high 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting to lead Elmhurst to a 61-32 win over MacMurray. On Saturday, she shot 7-of-10 from the floor to finish with 17 points. She also led the team in assists (five) and steals (seven). Sutton helped the Bluejays set the tournament’s record for steals in a game with 24 against MacMurray.
