Carthage's Buchholz Named CCIW Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

Buchholz

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Erika Buchholz of Carthage was named College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week Monday after her performance during the previous week of competition.

Buchholz, a senior guard from Lisle, Ill., and Lisle High School, scored the game-winning free throws, as the Lady Reds upset ninth-ranked Calvin College, 52-50, on Dec. 1 at the CCIW/MIAA Women’s Basketball Classic in Holland, Mich. Calvin tied the game, 50-50, with 3:10 left in the game. Neither team was able to score over the next three minutes. With four seconds remaining, Buchholz was fouled, and she drained both free throws for a 52-50 lead. Buchholz scored 15 points in the Calvin game on five-of-13 field goals, along with five rebounds. In Carthage’s 80-60 loss to Hope College on Nov. 30, she had a game-high 17 points on six-of-13 field goals.
