Mount, Fidelia Share CCIW Women’s Basketball Player of the Week Honors

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Laura Mount of North Park and Kathleen Fidelia of Wheaton were named women’s basketball co-players of the week in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Monday after their performances during the previous week of competition.

Despite being sick with flu-like symptoms, Mount, a senior from Elgin, Ill., and Lake Zurich High School, came out against North Central and scored a team-high 17 points in a crucial 73-64 win over North Central last Tuesday. She then backed up her performance with a 26-point output, her second highest of the season, in a 69-57 win over Elmhurst Saturday night. She was a perfect 14-of-14 from the free throw line in the game against the Bluejays.

Fidelia, a sophomore guard from Arden, N.C., and Carolina Day School, led the Thunder to a pair of victories last week as Wheaton posted a 2-0 record to move into sole possession of first place in the CCIW. Fidelia averaged 16.5 points for the week, with a 47.1 (8-17) field goal percentage. She also averaged seven rebounds per game, 4.5 assists per game and two steals per game. Fidelia scored a team-high 17 points in Wheaton’s 67-56 win against 10th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday. She also collected seven rebounds, with four assists and two steals in the key conference win against the Titans. Fidelia scored 17 points on Tuesday night in a 56-44 victory against Augustana. Fidelia grabbed seven rebounds, with five assists and two steals in the win against the Vikings.
