Wheaton Wins Second Straight CCIW Tournament Title with 54-49 Victory over Illinois Wesleyan
WHEATON, Ill. -- The Wheaton College women's basketball team advanced to its second straight NCAA Tournament after a 54-49 win over Illinois Wesleyan in the championship game of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women's Basketball Tournament on Saturday.
The win not only was the third tournament title in school history for the Thunder (19-7, 12-2 in the CCIW), but also secured them of the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA's field of 63. Illinois Wesleyan finishes 22-5 (11-3 in the CCIW) and awaits word on a possible at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Wheaton advanced to the sectional round of the NCAA Tournament last season, losing to DePauw.
Against Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday, the Thunder were led by three players in double figures including Kathleen Fidelia (18 points), Elizabeth Fox (14 points) and Jill Trenz (11 points).
Illinois Wesleyan's Sarah Bull led all scorers with 23 points.
