2003-04 PRESEASON WOMEN'S BASKETBALL POLL
Wheaton lands favorite’s role in close voting by league coaches
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE sent 10/24/03ROCK ISLAND, Illinois – Wheaton has landed in the favorite’s seat for the 2003-04 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin women’s basketball season according to a vote of the league’s coaches. The Thunder, which finished third in the regular season a year ago and lost in the championship game of the conference tournament by a single point to Illinois Wesleyan, picked up 42 points and four first place votes.
The Thunder nudged past Millikin, which garnered 39 points and two first place votes for second after finishing last year in sixth place with a 6-8 record. Carthage, 10-4 last year, was picked for third with 37 points and two first place votes. Illinois Wesleyan, the regular season and tournament champion a year ago after going 11-3 in the league, nailed down the fourth spot with 34 points. Augustana (30), North Central (22), North Park (13) and Elmhurst (8) were slotted in spots five through eight.
The CCIW coaches all voted in this poll and they were not allowed to vote for their own teams.
