Wheaton’s Wiele Named CCIW Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Andy Wiele was named College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week Monday after his performance during the previous week of competition.

Wiele, a junior center from St. Louis, Mo., and Westminster Christian Academy, averaged a double-double for the week with an average of 13.5 points and 10 rebounds per game in leading Wheaton to a 2-0 record. Wiele scored 18 points on nine-for-13 (69.2 percent) shooting from the field and 10 rebounds in a 69-66 win at Wartburg College on Saturday. On Wednesday night against the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), Wiele scored nine points, with nine rebounds, including four offensive boards. Wiele played only 14 minutes at IIT, all in the second half, due to an injury he had suffered in a game the previous week.
