Carthage’s Djurickovic Named CCIW Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Steve Djurickovic of Carthage was named College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week Monday after his performance during the previous week of competition.

Djurickovic, a freshman guard from Pleasant Prairie, Wis., and Bradford High School, scored a season-high 39 points on eight-of-17 field goals and 23-of-27 free throws in the Red Men's 83-73 win over North Central on Jan. 23.  Both free-throw marks broke Carthage game records set by Johnnie Butler at Monmouth College on Dec. 22, 1970.  Butler was 17-for-23 in that 1970 contest, and his 17 made free throws were subsequently matched by Michael Gardner at Concordia University (Wis.) on Dec. 7, 1978.  Djurickovic's 23 made free throws also broke a CCIW record by Dale Schweinberger of Augustana College (Ill.) versus Elmhurst College on Feb. 23, 1957.  On Jan. 26, Djurickovic scored a game-high 20 points on four-of-15 field goals and 12-of-13 free throws in a 66-62 win at Millikin.
