Wheaton’s Standard Earns CCIW Men’s Basketball Player of the Week Honors
NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Wheaton’s Johnnie Standard was named men’s basketball player of the week in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Tuesday after his performance during the previous week of competition.
Standard, a senior co-captain from Springfield, Ill., and Chatham (Glenwood) High School, helped the Thunder to a pair of victories last weekend, averaging 17.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game as Wheaton won the tournament championship at the College of Staten Island’s “Tournament of Heroes”. Standard, the “Tournament of Heroes” MVP, led the Thunder to a 93-89 overtime win against Nazareth College (NY) on Dec. 29, with 21 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Wheaton defeated Rivier College 60-44 on Dec. 30 in the tournament championship game as Standard recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, two blocked shots and two steals.
