Elmhurst’s Burks Named CCIW Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Elmhurst’s Ryan Burks was named men’s basketball player of the week in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Monday after his performance during the previous week of competition.

Burks, a sophomore guard from Manito, Ill., and Midwest Central High School, led the Elmhurst men’s basketball team to a pair of wins last week. On Tuesday, Burks poured in a game-high 21 points in the Bluejays’ 55-52 win over 14th-ranked UW-Oshkosh. Burks finished 7-of-13 from the floor, including 5-of-7 from three-point range. He broke a 52-all tie with a long-range three-pointer with just eight seconds to play to give Elmhurst the win. He also matched up defensively against UW-Oshkosh’s Jim Capelle and held the Titans’ leading scorer to eight points below his season average.

On Thursday, Burks scored a game-high 18 points in the Bluejays’ 74-66 win at Alma College. He finished the game shooting 6-of-12 from the floor and 4-of-8 from three-point range. For the week, he shot 52.0 percent (13-of-25) from the field, including 60.0 percent (9-of-15) from beyond the arc.
