North Central’s Simmons Wins CCIW Men’s Basketball Player of the Week Award

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Anthony Simmons of North Central was named men’s basketball player of the week in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Monday after his performance during the previous week of competition.

Simmons, a senior forward from Bolingbrook, Ill., and Romeoville High School, averaged 25.5 points, six rebounds and 3.5 assists to lead the Cardinals to two crucial victories to keep their conference tournament hopes alive. Simmons scored 25 points on 9-of-15 shooting in a victory over Elmhurst on Wednesday. He followed that up with 26 points, six rebounds and six assists in a last-second victory over Augustana on Saturday. In the victory over Augustana, Simmons hit four free throws with one-tenth of a second remaining for the win. In the two games, Simmons was 17-of-26 from the floor (.653), 4-of-7 from three-point range (.571) and 13-of-15 from the free-throw line (.866).
