Elmhurst’s Ruch, Carthage’s Schlemm Named CCIW Co-Men’s Basketball Players of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Brent Ruch of Elmhurst and Brian Schlemm of Carthage were named co-men’s basketball players of the week in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Monday after their performances during the previous week of competition.

In the Bluejays’ 98-84 win over North Central on Jan. 24, Ruch, a sophomore center from Farmer City, Ill., and Blue Ridge High School, totaled a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. He added two blocks and a game-high four steals in the win. On Saturday, Jan. 27, in the Bluejays’ loss at Augustana, Ruch totaled 32 points, 11 rebounds and three steals, all game-highs. He shot 12-of-15 from the floor and his 32 points set a new career high. For the week he totaled 46 points on 16-of-21 shooting (76 percent). He was also 13-of-14 (93 percent) from the foul line. He also totaled 22 rebounds, six steals, three assists and three blocks.

Schlemm, a senior forward from Libertyville, Ill., and Carmel High School, had 24 points on nine-of-13 field goals and four-of-six free throws, along with eight rebounds, as the Red Men defeated Illinois Wesleyan, 94-83, on Jan. 27. Earlier in the week, Schlemm had 13 points in a 64-62 win at North Park on Jan. 24.
