NCAA Announces Men's and WOmen's Basketball Tournament Selections
NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- The NCAA announced pairings for the Division III Men's and Women's Basketball Tournaments Monday as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) will have three teams playing in post-season play.
The CCIW will be represented by two teams on the women's side, but only one on the men's side as automatic qualifier Augustana will be the only men's team representing the conference at this year's NCAA Tournament. On the women's side, along with automatic qualifier Wheaton, Illinois Wesleyan earned an at-large bid.
Augustana will host a first round match-up against Carroll of the Midwest Conference. The Vikings finished the regular season and conference tournament with a record of 22-5 and earned the conference's automatic bid to the tournament with a 78-70 win over Elmhurst in the championship game.
Wheaton earned the women's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after finishing 19-7 and winning the conference tournament with a 54-49 win over Illinois Wesleyan. The Thunder will face St. Benedict at UW-Stout on March 2. At-large qualifier Illinois Wesleyan finished the regular season with a 22-5 record and will play Carroll at Luther on March 2.
