Illinois Wesleyan Top Pick in CCIW Men’s Basketball Poll
NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Illinois Wesleyan was predicted to win the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin men’s basketball title according to a poll voted on by CCIW coaches Wednesday.
The Titans, who finished 21-5, 12-2 in the CCIW last season, tallied 49 points, including seven first place votes, while Augustana (17-8, 9-5) took second with 39 points, including one first place vote. Elmhurst (18-7, 10-4) finished third in the voting with 37 points.
Illinois Wesleyan comes into the 2005-06 season with the No. 1 pre-season ranking by D3Hoops.com, as well as Street & Smith and Division III News. The Titans, along with Wheaton, advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season.
Carthage (12-13, 6-8) was predicted fourth with 32 points, while North Central (15-10, 5-9) was fifth with 26 points. Wheaton (20-6, 10-4), Millikin (12-13, 4-10) and North Park (0-14, 4-21) rounded out the poll with 18, 16 and seven points respectively.
The CCIW men’s basketball season begins Nov. 18.
