Martin, Walton Share CCIW Men's Basketball Player of the Week Honors

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Dan Walton of North Central and Chris Martin of Elmhurst were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Men’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week Monday after their performances during the previous week of competition.

Walton, a junior forward from Carol Stream, Ill., nearly averaged a double-double to help North Central go 2-0 on the week as the Cardinals posted 20 wins for only the third time in school history. Walton averaged 11 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals in wins over Elmhurst and Augustana. He was 9 of 19 from the field (47 percent) and 4 of 6 from the line (66 percent).

Martin, a senior forward from Eureka, Ill., scored 49 points while leading Elmhurst to a 1-1 record and a spot in the CCIW Tournament. On Wednesday, Martin scored a game-high 23 points along with six rebounds in the Bluejays’ loss to North Central. On Saturday, Martin poured in a game-high 26 points to go along with eight rebounds in the Bluejays’ win over Wheaton. He finished the week shooting .515 percent (17-of-33) from the floor, including 9-of-17 from 3-point range.
