Augustana's Swetalla Named CCIW Men's Basketball Player of the Week
NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Nate Swetalla of Augustana was named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Men’s Basketball Player of the Week Monday after his performance during the previous week of competition.
Swetalla, a junior from Bettendorf, Iowa, nursed a sprained ankle and scored a total of just 12 points in two games, but played a tremendous role on the defensive end of the floor. In a 57-54 win at fifth ranked Illinois Wesleyan on Jan. 25, he held Keelan Amelianovich, a former CCIW “Player of the Year” and a second team D3hoops.com All-America selection last year, to just eight points on two of eight shooting from the floor, two of five from three-point range and two of two from the free throw line.
On Jan. 29, he guarded Elmhurst’s Chris Martin, a fourth team all-American a year ago by D3hoops.com and a player who had been averaging 24 points a game coming into the contest. In the 63-60 Viking victory, Swetalla held Martin to just four baskets on 14 attempts, including a 1-for-4 effort from three-point range.
Swetalla logged 61 minutes in the two games and finished the week with 12 points and four rebounds. He shot .556 (5-9) from the field and .667 (2-3) from three-point range. He had one assist and it was his basket off an offensive rebound with just four seconds left that provided the winning points in the win at Elmhurst.
