Former CCIw men's basketball players honored on d3hoops.com all-decade team
NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Seven former College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) men's basketball players were named to the D3Hoops.com All-Decade Team, recognizing the top NCAA Division III players from 1997-98 to 2006-07, the first 10 seasons of the D3Hoops.com website.
Former Illinois Wesleyan guard Korey Coon was named to the first team, while former Carthage guard Antoine McDaniel was a second-team member. On the third team was former Illinois Wesleyan guard Adam Dauksas along with former Wheaton center Joel Kolmodin. The fourth team includes former players Keelan Amelianovich, a forward from Illinois Wesleyan, and center Jason Wiertel of Carthage. Former Augustana guard Drew Carstens was named honorable mention.
Koon was the starting point guard on Illinois Wesleyan's 1997 national championship team and was named a D3Hoops.com All-American in 1999 and 2000. Additionally, Koon was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American and took home CCIW Player of the Year honors in 1999 and 2000.
Named a D3Hoops.com All-American in 2002 and 2003, McDaniel helped lead the Red Men to three NCAA Tournament appearances including a spot in the Final Four in 2002. McDaniel was also named the CCIW Most Outstanding Player in 2002.
Dauksas manned the Titans from his point guard position for four years, leading his team to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances including a spot in the Final Four in 2006. Named the CCIW Most Outstanding Player in 2005, Dauksas was named a D3Hoops.com All-American twice (first team in both 2005 and 2006).
Kolmodin was named a first-team all-American by D3Hoops.com in 2003 and 2004 despite a knee injury and five knee operations before he finished his junior season. Kolmodin battled through the pain and averaged 23.2 points and 11.2 rebounds his junior season and was named the CCIW Most Outstanding Player.
Amelianovich was a three-time D3Hoops.com All-American with second-team honors in 2004 and 2005, and a first-team honor in 2006. He was named the CCIW Most Outstanding Player as a sophomore and teamed with Dauksas to lead the Titans to the aforementioned four straight NCAA Tournament appearances.
A three-time D3Hoops.com All-American (third team in 2000, second team in 2001, first team in 2002), Wiertel was one of only four players in the history of the CCIW to be named first team all-conference all four years of his career. He was part of three NCAA Tournament appearances for Carthage including the aforementioned Final Four appearance in 2002.
Carstens was a D3Hoops.com All-American three times (fourth team in 2002, first team in 2003 and third team in 2004) as Augustana went 70-30 during his four-year career with the Vikings. Carstens finished his career with 1,813 points, second all-time in school history, and he holds school records for most free throws made in a season and a career.
