2004-05 PRESEASON MEN'S BASKETBALL POLL
Defending champion Illinois Wesleyan wins landslide vote in 2004-05 pre-season coaches poll
Last year Illinois Wesleyan was picked for fifth in the pre-season poll and ended up winning its second straight title by two games with a 12-2 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin record. This time around the Titans are going to be wearing the favorite’s mantle as the league coaches have given them the nod in the pre-season polling. Illinois Wesleyan, which has won 26 conference titles since 1946-47, picked up a unanimous 49 points and all seven first place votes. Scott Trost’s team was 21-7 overall a year ago and have been ranked as high as second in the nation in some pre-season rankings in NCAA Division III.
Wheaton, which tied with Augustana for second a year ago at 10-4, was a clear cut choice for second with 43 points and one first place vote. Carthage and Augustana finished in a tie for third with 31 points with Millikin landing in fifth with 26. North Central checks in at sixth with 20 points and Elmhurst draws the seventh spot with 17. North Park was picked for eighth with seven points.
The coaches in the league could not vote for their own teams.
