ROCK ISLAND, Illinois - Carthage, which last year won the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin men's basketball title by a whopping four games over Augustana and Elmhurst, is the favorite to repeat once again. In a vote of conference coaches, the Redmen, who advanced to the NCAA Division III Final Four in 2001-02 with a final record of 28-2, picked up 47 out of a possible 49 votes, including five first place tallies.
Augustana was 9-5 in the league and 17-8 overall a year ago and the Vikings picked up 44 points and two first place votes. Illinois Wesleyan, which suffered a rare losing season at 12-13 in 2001-02, was tabbed for third place with 35 points while Wheaton was in fourth with 30 points and the other first place vote.
Elmhurst was picked for fifth with 28 points with North Park (19), Millikin (12) and North Central (9) filling out the conference.
