North Central Men, Wheaton Women Earn Track and Field Titles
DECATUR, Ill. – Behind six individual medal winners, the North Central men coasted to its 22nd straight College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin championship, while Wheaton earned the women’s title after the Thunder also took home individual medals in six events.
The Cardinals won their 30th team title in school history by topping second place finisher Augustana with 232 points, while the Vikings tallied 163 points. Carthage placed third with 124 points, while Wheaton (106), Millikin (92) and Elmhurst (65) came in at fourth, fifth and sixth respectively. Illinois Wesleyan (32) and North Park (3) rounded out the team scoring.
While North Central may be a regular in the winners circle for the men, the Wheaton women earned its first CCIW team title on Saturday, scoring 179 points. Augustana came in second with 143.50 points, while three-time defending champion Carthage was third with 141.50 points. North Central (135), Illinois Wesleyan (109) and Millikin (46) finished fourth, fifth and sixth respectively. Elmhurst (41) and North Park (23) rounded out the team scoring.
The North Central coaches were named Coaching Staff of the Year on the men’s side, while the Wheaton coaches were named Coaching Staff of the Year on the women’s side. Shea’na Grigsby of Carthage and Ted McMillan of Augustana took home Female and Male Athlete of the Meet honors.
