Carthage's lopez named cciw men's tennis player of the week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Carthage's Sergio Lopez was named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men's Tennis Player of the Week Thursday after his performance during the Red Men's Spring Break trip last week.

Lopez, a junior from Culiacan Sinaloa, Mexico, led the Red Men to a team record of 3-1 during their Spring Break trip to Orlando, Fla., from March 16-19. Lopez went 3-1 while playing at No. 3 singles and was 4-0 at No. 1 doubles during the trip.

Carthage concluded its trip on March 19 in a 5-4 win over Georgetown College. In that match, Lopez teamed up with Miguel Yunes at No. 1 doubles to win 8-5 over Matias Carcamo and Andres Escalante. The Red Men defeated Millsaps 6-3 on March 18, topped Wisconsin-La Crosse 5-4 on March 17, and lost to Stevens Tech 5-4 on March 16. Lopez won all three of his doubles and singles matches in those contests.
