NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Augustana's Rafael Romero was named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men's Tennis Player of the Week Wednesday after his performance during the past weekend of competition.

Romero, a senior from Punto Fijo, Venezuela and Byron ( Ill.) High School, finished 8-1 this past week on the Vikings’ spring trip, going 4-1 at No. 1 singles and 4-0 at No. 2 doubles. Romero defeated Ryan Morse of Villa Julie (6-3, 6-1), Andrew Kracht of Catholic (6-4, 7-5), Justin Walsh of Cabrini (6-0, 6-0), and Jarrad Silver of Juniata (6-4, 6-4).  His only loss of the week came against Catawba, an NCAA Division II school.  He lost to Shahin Soltan (6-1, 6-1). He won all four of his doubles matches with senior Andy McCarter (Dixon HS, Dixon, Ill.). They defeated Ryan Woodring and Korey Garner of Villa Julie (8-1), Dana Pallesen and Tom McCormack of Catawba (9-7), Mike Schouller and Michael Reaney of Catholic (8-1), and Aaron Rhodes and Jonathan Skoner of Juniata (8-6).
