Carthage's Lopez named cciw men's tennis player of the week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Carthage's Sergio Lopez was named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men's Tennis Player of the Week Wednesday after his performance during the previous week of competition.

Lopez, a junior from Culiacan Sinaloa, Mexico, went 6-0 against against Wisconsin-Whitewater, Olivet Nazarene and Augustana over the weekend. Lopez won three matches at No. 1 doubles, two matches at No. 3 singles and one match at No. 2 singles.

Carthage moved to 4-1 in CCIW play with a 7-2 win over Augustana on April 20, giving the Red Men the No. 2 seed in the CCIW Men's Tennis Championship April 25-26 in Bloomington, Ill. Lopez defeated the Vikings' Andy McCarter (Dixon, Ill./H.S.) 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 singles and teamed up with Miguel Yunez (Villahermosa, Tabasco, Mexico) at No. 1 doubles to defeat Chris Mullin (Darien, Ill./Downers Grove South) and Kyle Doyle (Maurnee, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) 8-2.
