Carthage's Perkins, Augustana's Ruth named cciw co-men's tennis players of the week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Carthage's Joey Perkins and Augustana's Greg Ruth were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Co-Men's Tennis Players of the Week Wednesday after their performances during the previous week of competition.

Perkins, a junior from Freeport, Ill., led Carthage to a 9-0 victory over Elmhurst on April 12. Perkins won both his matches at No. 6 singles and at No. 3 doubles. He defeated Elmhurst’s Mark Kleppe 6-2, 6-3 in his singles match, then, teamed with Andy Schwenke ( Mukwonago, Wis.) in his doubles match to defeat Ryan Wise (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) and Kleppe 8-2.

Ruth, a junior from Quincy, Ill., and Quincy High School, was 3-0 this past weekend with a 2-0 record in doubles and a 1-0 mark in singles. He teamed up with sophomore Kurtis Carls (Utica, Ill./LaSalle-Peru) to defeat North Central’s Nick DeFalco (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) and Mike Urbelis (Rockford, Ill./Boylan) 8-3 at No. 2 doubles. Ruth then teamed with freshman Kyle Feder (Belleville, Ill./East) to beat Illinois Wesleyan’s Vijit Chouhan (St. Louis, Mo.) and David Dulmage (Algonquin, Ill.) 8-5 at No. 3 doubles. He also defeated Chouhan (6-1, 6-0) at No. 4 singles.
