Hackett, Cook Named CCIW Softball Players of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Valerie Hackett of Illinois Wesleyan and Liz Cook of Millikin were named College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) softball players of the week Tuesday after their performances during the previous week of competition.

Hackett, a sophomore from New Lenox, Ill., and Lincoln-Way Central, batted .487 (19-of-39) with an .872 slugging percentage as she hit three home runs and six doubles in helping the Titans go 6-0 against conference foes and 8-3 overall on the week. She had 10 runs batted in and scored six runs. She also had home runs against Wheaton, Augustana, and Maryville and had multiple hit games against Maryville, Hope, Wheaton, Millikin (twice) and Webster with three-hit games against Millikin and Webster. Additionally she was 1-0 as a pitcher.

Cook, a junior from Sterling, Ill., and Sterling High School, combined for a weekly 1.00 ERA in two appearances with a 1-0 record. Cook threw seven innings on the week by scattering just three hits and one earned run while striking out three and allowing opponents just a .130 batting average. In a win over Elmhurst, Cook threw six innings with two strikeouts, three hits and one earned run to improve to 3-2. She also threw one inning of relief against Illinois Wesleyan, without allowing a base runner and striking out one.
