Sharp, Prieto Earn CCIW Softball Player of the Week Honors

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Alissa Sharp of Wheaton and Jenna Prieto of North Central were named College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) softball players of the week Tuesday after their performances during the previous week of competition.

Sharp, a freshman infielder from San Clemente, Calif., and Saddleback Valley Christian, hit .476 (10-21) last week with 11 RBI and six runs scored. Sharp recorded at least one hit in five of Wheaton’s six games last week and five of her 10 hits for the week were extra-base hits. She hit a grand slam home run, a triple and three doubles, while also adding two stolen bases. In Wheaton’s 12-3 (non-conference) win against North Central at the North Central Tournament on Saturday, Sharp drove in seven runs, going two-for-three. In the win against the Cardinals she belted a grand slam and a double. In Thursday’s 10-8 CCIW win against North Central, Sharp was two-for-three, with a double and a stolen base.

Prieto, a freshman pitcher from Mokena, Ill., and Lincoln-Way East High School, went 2-0 in three appearances last week with a no-hitter. She had two complete games including a shutout and a 1.93 ERA with seven strikeouts and only one walk. In her no-hit, perfect game (an 8-0 win over Concordia (Ill.)), Prieto went five innings and struck out four with no walks, retiring all 15 batters she faced.
