Deck, Hyland, Prieto Named CCIW Softball Players of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Ashley Deck of Illinois Wesleyan earned College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Hitter of the Week honors Tuesday, while her teammate Lauren Hyland and North Central’s Jenna Prieto earned Co-Pitcher of the Week honors after their performances during the previous week of competition.

Deck, a junior second baseman from Bolingbrook, Ill., and Bolingbrook High School, batted .469 with team highs of 15 hits and 10 runs scored in helping Illinois Wesleyan to an 8-2 record at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla. Deck had three doubles, a triple, six runs batted in and a .625 slugging percentage. Deck also had two sacrifice hits and two steals with an on base percentage of .514.

Hyland, a senior pitcher from Evergreen Park, Ill., and Evergreen Park High School, won five of the Titans’ eight games in the Rebel Spring Games, posting a 5-1 record and a 1.91 earned run average. She struck out 35 in 33 innings and had three shutouts, including a one-hitter against Washington & Jefferson, a three-hitter against Wisconsin-Stevens Point and a two-hitter against Endicott.

Prieto, a freshman pitcher from Mokena, Ill., and Lincoln-Way East High School, went 3-1 in four appearances last week. Prieto struck out the first seven batters she faced en route to a no-hitter as the Cardinals posted an 8-0 win over St. Joseph’s College (N.Y.) on March 19. For the week, Prieto had three starts with two complete games and two shutouts. She struck out 15 in 14 innings pitched, and opponents hit just .204 against her.
