Augustana Softball Set to Host NCAA First Round

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The NCAA announced the 59 teams that will compete in the Division III Softball Championship Monday, and Augustana will be the lone College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin school participating in post-season play.

The Vikings (33-8) will host a double-elimination regional May 11-15, welcoming seven other teams to their campus. Joining Augustana will be UW-Eau Claire (34-4), Coe (34-10), Aurora (36-9), Central (Iowa) (32-11), Chicago (19-13), Hope (30-12) and Lake Forest (24-13). The finals, hosted by Peace College, will be held May 19-23 at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Augustana earned the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament after winning the regular season and tournament title, going 13-1 during the regular season and defeating Illinois Wesleyan 3-2 in the championship game of the CCIW Tournament on Saturday. The CCIW was one of 35 Division III conferences to be granted one automatic qualifier.
