NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Wheaton’s Adrienne Munoz and Illinois Wesleyan’s Christy Engel were named College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Softball Players of the Week Tuesday.
Munoz, a sophomore applied science major from Wildomar, Calif., and California Lutheran, helped lead Wheaton to a 5-2 record last week as she hit .522 (12-for-23) with two home runs and a double. She recorded a .826 slugging percentage for the week, along with seven RBI and nine runs scored. In Wheaton’s 7-6 win at North Park in eight innings on April 22, Munoz was three-for-four with three runs scored as she belted a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game at 6-6 and send the contest into extra innings. In a 9-0 win against Elmhurst on April 23, Munoz was two-for-two with three runs scored and two walks. She also hit a home run in Wheaton’s 13-8 victory against Millikin on April 24.
Engel, a junior secondary education and math major from St. Charles, Ill., and St. Charles North High School, allowed only two hits in 16 innings with a no-hitter against Elmhurst on April 25. Engel allowed two hits and struck out 10 in six innings in a 12-0 win over Millikin on April 22. She walked the first batter she faced against the Bluejays and then retired 14 in a row before someone reached against her on an error in the fifth inning. She struck out five and induced 15 ground outs in the seven inning no-hitter. She also pitched the final three innings and struck out three in the 7-3 nightcap win over Elmhurst, earning a save.
