Callicutt, Hegna Named CCIW Softball Players of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Sarah Callicutt and Kim Hegna of Wheaton were named College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Softball Players of the Week Tuesday after their performances during the previous week of competition.

Callicutt, a senior outfielder from Duluth, Ga., and Chattahoochee High School, helped lead Wheaton to four conference wins last week. Callicutt batted .467 (seven-for-15) with a stolen base, four runs scored and eight RBI. She posted a .933 slugging percentage, with a home run, a triple and two doubles on the week. In a 12-9 win against Elmhurst, Callicutt went three-for-four, with a stolen base, three RBI and two runs scored. She helped the Thunder to an 8-6 win against the Bluejays in the second game, going three-for-four, with four RBI as she belted a double and a triple. In a 14-1 win against Millikin on Saturday, she hit a home run.

Hegna, a senior pitcher from Black River Falls, Wis., and Black River Falls High School, earned a victory in three of Wheaton’s four CCIW wins. Hegna pitched 19-1/3 innings last week, posting a 3-0 record and a 2.17 ERA with 11 strikeouts. Hegna earned a win with 3-2/3 innings of scoreless relief in a 12-9 victory at Elmhurst as she allowed just one hit, with three strikeouts. Hegna also was a winner on Saturday in a 14-1 victory at Millikin as she allowed just one run on three hits in a five-inning complete game victory against the Big Blue. She also started the second game of the doubleheader at Millikin, a 4-1 win. She earned the win in four innings of work, allowing just one unearned run on four hits.
