Bowlin, Prieto Named CCIW Softball Players of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Elmhurst’s Amanda Bowlin and North Central’s Jenna Prieto were named College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Softball Players of the Week Tuesday after their performances during the previous week of competition.

Bowlin, a freshman outfielder from Ballwin, Mo., led the Bluejays to a 3-1 record last week while posting a team-high .571 average. Bolin recorded eight hits in 14 at bats. She scored four runs and drove in three. In the Bluejays’ series against North Central, Bowlin finished five-of-6 at the plate. She drove in both of the team’s runs in a 4-2 loss in game one. In game two, she hit a lead-off triple in the seventh inning and scored the winning run in Elmhurst’s 1-0 win. She posted three hits in eight at bats in the Bluejays’ doubleheader sweep of Benedictine on Monday. She scored a pair of runs and recorded two hits in Elmhurst’s 9-6 extra inning win in game one. She drove in a run in the Bluejays’ 14-6 win in game two.

Prieto, a sophomore pitcher from Mokena, Ill., and Lincoln-Way East High School, finished the week with a 2-0 record, pushing the Cardinals’ overall record to 15-6. She gave up only one earned run in 14 innings against CCIW opponents Millikin and Elmhurst. The 9-1 Prieto struck out five and did not issue a walk while giving up only five hits to the 53 batters she faced. Prieto holds a 1.97 ERA for the Cardinals, leading the team in strikeouts (42) over 64 innings pitched.
