illinois wesleyan wins 2009 CCIW Softball Tournament Title
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Conference regular season champion Illinois Wesleyan captured its first College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Softball Tournament title since 2003 Saturday, defeating North Central 5-3 in the seventh and final game of the weekend tournament.
With the win, Illinois Wesleyan (34-4, 14-0) earns the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Regional. It was the seventh time in school history that the Titans have won a softball tournament title.
Illinois Wesleyan won three-straight games on Saturday after an 8-6 loss to North Central in 13 innings on Friday. The Titans bounced back and won the first game on Saturday 7-0 over Carthage, then defeated North Central 1-0 in 10 innings before winning the deciding game of the tournament over the Cardinals.
