Augustana Wins Second Straight CCIW Softball Tournament Title

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – For the third time in four years, Augustana can call itself College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Softball Tournament Champions after they defeated regular season champion Illinois Wesleyan 6-0 in the championship game Saturday afternoon in Bloomington.

With the win, Augustana earns the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

It was the third time that the Vikings have won a softball tournament title, winning also in 2004 over North Central, and last season over Illinois Wesleyan.

Augustana, which finishes the regular season with an overall record of 30-12, placed second in the CCIW standings during the regular season, finishing with a conference record of 11-3, while tournament runner-up Illinois Wesleyan won the conference title with a 13-1 record (31-12 overall).

Jordan Huff picked up the win for Augustana, going the distance, allowing no runs on four hits and three strikeouts. Samantha Knox was two-for-four on the day with two runs for the Vikings.
