Stanicek, Potacki Named CCIW Softball Players of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Ashley Stanicek of Carthage and Lori Potacki of North Central were named softball players of the week in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Tuesday after their performances during the previous week of competition.

Stanicek, a sophomore shortstop from Lockport, Ill., and daughter of former Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Steve Stanicek, went 10-for-15 in six games with eight runs scored, one double, four home runs, nine RBI and a 1.533 slugging percentage. She had a big day in a March 30 doubleheader against Marian College (Wis.), going six-for-seven with three home runs and eight RBI. She added another home run in a 9-1 loss to Illinois Wesleyan on April 1.

Potacki, a junior from Palos Hills, Ill., went 1-1 on the week with a 1.08 ERA. She had two complete games and pitched 13 innings, including a 9-0 shutout of Chicago Saturday when she allowed only three hits and struck out three. For the week, she allowed only two earned runs on 11 hits with five strikeouts and one walk as opponents hit just .216 off of her.
