Buchmiller, Hyland Earn CCIW Softball Players of the Week Honors

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Gina Buchmiller of Carthage and Lauren Hyland of Illinois Wesleyan were named softball players of the week in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Tuesday after their performances during the previous week of competition.

Buchmiller, a senior designated hitter from Gladstone, Mich., had a stellar performance at the plate during the week. She went 12-for-28 and batted .429 with three doubles and six RBI on the Lady Reds’ 3-7 spring trip to the “Rebel Games” in Kissimmee, Fla.

Hyland, a junior pitcher from Evergreen Park, Ill., had a win and a save in Illinois Wesleyan’s only two games so far this season. She struck out seven and allowed five hits in a 2-0 shutout over Ramapo in the first game of the season, then came in to pitch two innings of relief to earn a save in the Titans’ 5-2 win over Pacific Lutheran. She struck out five of the seven batters she faced and allowed just one hit.
